Bug hunting at La Mesa Eco Park

October 13th, 2007 · 6 Comments

After being absent from photo ops EB1 for quite a while, I joined a group of hobbyist photographers in a photo shoot/trek at the La Mesa Eco Park somewhere in Fairview, Quezon City. The group belongs to i-Mag Photography Magazine Forum, some of them were my buddies when we did our street photo ops last June 2007.

This is my first time to go on “bug” hunting, my first serious try on macro photography, I understand the fact that I’m not fully equipped to do such but to prove that I can still achieve something with minimal equipment is something else.
Unknown Red Bug

Not to mislead my readers/viewers, all photos have been cropped to fit my liking, I’d be honest in saying that I cannot achieve a 1:1 magnification ratio using my close-up lenses.

A macro lens and/or extension tubes will definitely do the trick, meanwhile, while I’m still dreaming of having those, I will just enjoy my moment with my close-up filters.
Devil's horn

Several things that I learned in doing macro photography, one is that a person must have a lot of patience. You need patience & hard work in finding the subject.
Popping eyes

Patience & controlled temper when you’ve composed that shot & properly focussed the subject & the f*cking bug will either fly or move away of your view finder’s range.
spidey

A person must have sharp eyes, don’t just rely on your lens to focus for you, you must see for yourself that it is properly focussed, otherwise you’ll end up with sharp background & blurred subjects.
moth

A stamina of the bull to walk, kneel down, bend & if needed lie down on a wet grass just to achieve something.
Higad

Love for the environment, I remember an old saying “Leave nothing but footsteps, take nothing but photographs, kill nothing but time.” We must never alter their natural habitat, someone needs to see them also.
tutubi

And most importantly, you must love what you are doing.
bangaw

It would be impossible to achieve something that you don’t want.
long legged

It would be a waste of time to being there but not liking what you are doing.
wasps

I love nature & I love photography & this is my own little way of sharing God’s beautiful creation.
