While attending Lito Sy’s Wedding Photography Workshop at Dusit Hotel, I received a text message from a studio that regularly hire me as back-up photographer.

That simply means that we will be shooting wedding on August 9 & 10, the August 9 schedule was confirmed about 2 months ago & he also mentioned that there’s a possibility of an August 10 gig.

I stopped for a while, this will make me work 3 times this week, August 8, 9 & 10. This will be a very tiring week, but it’s OK, I had much “rest” last July, I only had 1 schedule last month.

After the workshop, I was walking towards the bus stop when I received a call, it was from another studio.

[caller]: Kuya may sked ka ba sa 8?
[me]: Meron na e. Bakit?
[Caller]: Masama kasi pakiramdam ko, parang ta-trangkasuhin ako, baka hindi ko kayanin sa 8.
[me]: Ganun ba? Naka-oo na kasi ako e, mahirap namang bitinin ko sila.
[Caller]: Thank you na lang Kuya.

Honestly, I was tempted to accept the offer, he was the first to reserve my 08.08.08 schedule, I believe it was early July when he told me that he’ll be needing my service on that day, the venue will be in Subic. Also, there’s a great chance of getting my TF1 to be doubled since it’s an out of town gig.

But, I value my word, I said yes to one client & I’m determined to hold on to that. For some that’s a lost opportunity, for me it’s valuing a promise.

Anyways, during the seminar, I found out that August is the lean month for Chinese weddings, they believe that this is the “ghost month”, so I asked about the 888 (August 8, 2008) wedding thing, he said it’s a Pinoy thing. So for me to have 4 wedding schedules this August is a good development.

I like your professionalism - you’ll go places if you always keep your commitment. It is very hard to find people whose words you can depend on.
