Hindi normal na nasa ibaba ang camera ko, I always keep it in the bag para safe from dust, mist & everything else. Pero nitong nakaraang linggo, may bagong bumibisita sa garden namin, bukod sa butterflies at iba pang insects, may mga ibong Maya na paikot-ikot.
Pero may kaka-ibang huni akong narinig, kakaiba sa huni ng ibong Maya, paglabas ko sa pinto, I saw a light greenish, yellow-breasted bird that’s feeding in one of the flowers sa garden. I hurried upstairs to get my camera at pagbaba ko at pagsilip sa camera, naka-lipad na ito. It was so frustrating, from then on, lagi ng nakahanda yung camera ko at napakalapit lang sa akin.
Until 2 days ago when I had a very good shot of the bird:

The problem is, hindi ko siya kilala, demn! Biology pa naman is one of my favorite subject! Nakaka-inis, I need to get hold of a bird book soon! Anyways, I turn to my good old pal, the world wide web, I googled “birds that sip on flower nectars”, ei! don’t you put any bad connotation on my search string, observation ko yan sa characteristic ng ibon, i know that it’s a bird & it feeds on flowers. Anyways, google answered “hummingbird” & brought me to sites about the specie, Yes! I found the answer!
My curiosity went on, I checked on google image search & it showed images of hummingbirds na medyo nga kahawig ng nakita kong ibon. Mahaba ang beak, maikli ang buntot & most of all, sa bulaklak sila kumakain.
OK na sana, pero I won’t easily satisfied, I need to know kung anong specific species, sa mga articles kasi puro North America lang ang topic, so kailangan ko uli i-google ito, “hummingbirds in asia” naman ang search string. Anak ng ibon! Sabi sa article na ito “You will not find hummingbirds in Asia, Africa, or Europe.” Grr! imbes na makatulong, lalo pang gumulo ang sitwasyon!
Can somebody enlighten me on this? Sino ang may mabuting puso na pwedeng tumulong sa akin, I need to satisfy my curiosity.

Hay naku, it’s almost 5AM at kailangan ko ng umalis, I will cover a wedding sa Imus in the morning & lagare ako sa birthday party sa McDo Imus later in the evening. Sana may sagot na pag-uwi ko.

If im not mistaken, they are called sunbird. They are closely related to hummingbirds of america and honeyeaters of australia. Is is true that you cannot find humming birds here sa pinas. It can also be mistaken as bee eater but bea eaters have more intricate colors and has a black line at their eyes. All birds mentioned like to sip nectars from flowers, as shown above which you can likely see most of the day on your bakod.Nice shot po.Napadaan lang ako and saw your blog about this bird. Damn man!miss my birdwatching days,!!
Ill link u up dude!

kung nakita mong lumipad “backwards” or vertically ang ibon, safe ng masasabi na hummingbird nga yang ibon dahil unique sa hummingbird ang characteristic na iyon…
most probably, yang ibon ay spiderhunters.
