After Liliw, we headed west to the town of Nagcarlan, this town is famous for its Underground Cemetery. This unique burial place was built by the Franciscan Missionaries in 1845, it was here where the revolutionary forces of Laguna met secretly during the Philippine Revolution in 1896.

The curator/caretaker was skeptical in allowing us to enter, who would be surprised seeing 50 plus people shooting all over the place. I talked to the caretaker on the reasons why we went there, her concerns were valid.

Apparently, a lot of photos of the place has been published for commercial reasons & not a cent was given to the shrine. I assured her together with my fellow PiPhol that were mere hobbyist wanting to experience the place, I also told her that we are mostly “internet publishers” & we could help promote the place globally.

There’s no entrance fee, a donation box was placed inside the chapel to collect voluntarily from the visitors, this together with the funds coming from the local government helps in maintaining the place.

The place is creepy & serene except when the flashes flickered into the area, I had some goosebumps when I saw the altar.

We didn’t stay long at the place, it’s getting late & we still have 1 more stop, University of the Philippines in Los Baños was our last stop, that’s next.
