My WordPress WordCamp Experience

Yesterday was a historic day for Filipino bloggers especially for WordPress users. The first ever WordPress WordCamp Philippines was held at the Dela Salle - College of St. Benilde in Manila, not only the first WordCamp in the Philippines but in the whole South East Asia.

About 400 WordPress Bloggers attended the event, campers were then divided in different sessions discussing different WordPress related topics.

I attended the Creating a WordPress Themes & CSS Power by Gail Villanueva, WordPress for Corporate Websites by Hans A. Koch & WordPress for SEO also by Hans A. Koch.

After the sessions, camper’s were treated to a hefty lunch courtesy of one of the sponsors, Chowking.

The afternoon session opened with the “State of the Word” talk by Mr. WordPress himself, Matt Mullenweg (nice Nikon D3!), I was overwhelmed by the huge number of WordPress bloggers nowadays, when I started blogging in 2004 (still using b2/cafeblog then), it was very hard to find fellow Pinoy blogger in cyberspace.

After Matt’s talk, series of talks from the WordCamp sponsors followed & prizes we raffled via draw & some games. Then it was time for Matt to answer the questions.

And of course, the loot bag! The WordPress WordCamp bag with NuffNang mug, a Camper’s pass, a CD containing the camp’s documentation, an orange bag from Smart (which I won in a game) and two premiere night tickets for the movie “Righteous Kill” starring Robert De Niro & Al Pacino (another prize from a raffle).

There was a party after the event at the mag:net café in Serendra, The Fort, but opted to go with a long time blogging friend Major & the rest of the SEOPhils boys, we had a chit chat at Pier One at the San Miguel by the Bay at the Mall of Asia.
