The last time I received a text scam was in October 2004, I was still working in Saudi Arabia then & was using a Smart Pre-paid roaming sim that is different from what I’m having right now.
This morning, a text message woke me up, I grabbed y phone check who the sender was, to my dismay, I wanted to throw my cellphone & cursed who the sender was, yes, it’s another one of those text scam, it reads:
CONGRATULATIONS!!!Yo
ur cellphone # WON
TOYOTA HILUX plus
300thou as
HOMEPARTNER last May
2,2008.To clain
it,please call now MABEL
DELACROS of Phil.

Damn! A Toyota Hi-Lux & 300,000 Pesos! Just what I needed! With that much money, I can buy a new Nikon D700 which will released on July 26, 2008!
Not so fast Master, I’ve heard a lot of these kind of scam in the news, they have victimized a lot of innocent greedy cellphone users. The modus operandi is simple, if you call them, they will give you the details on how to claim the prize, next is they will tell you that you need to give them xxx amount of money as tax or what ever reason they can give you. The poor victim will give in to the request & in a snap, the phone will be dead.
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) had warned the public about this kind of message, it’s simple, don’t give (or send) money.
My principle is very simple “I am not entitled to win unless I joined”, If I didn’t spend a single centavo to join in any of the text raffle, then how in the hell will I win a Toyota Hi-Lux & 300 Thousand Pesos? And let’s say, I really won, why would I give any amount of money to you without the proof of my winnings?
I’m writing this entry to warn the public, I know that we are wise enough to discern which is real & scam. But sometimes money (or what ever) will makes us think otherwise, just be careful & don’t be stupid!

There a lot of types of scam, this is including via handphone. Sometimes you received a phone call asking your credit card number with an excuse for checking the bank statement.
Still there a lot of people fall into this kind of trap. There still have a low awareness regarding this types of scam.
