When will they raise the flag?

June 7th, 2007 · 5 Comments

It was Diosdado Macapagal who moved the celebration of Independence Day from 4th of July to 12th of June, now its her daughter’s turn to change the holiday, by virtue of Proclamation No. 1211, June 11 will be a non-working holiday while June 12 will be a working holiday. This is in line with GMA’s holiday economics policy.

So when will they raise the flag in Kawit, Luneta & other historical places?
Declation on stone

I paid a visit today at the Aguinaldo Shrine, believe it or not, today is my first time to see the interior of the mansion. It was huge from the outside, but I would say bigger inside.
Marker

I wanted to capture the interior of the mansion but no photography is allowed inside the museum. He must be a real rich brat, imagine having your own bowling lanes. That’s something!
Shrine

Although the proclamation also states that all Independence Day rites will be done on the 12th, I’m worried about the traffic situation on all roads leading to the Aguinaldo Shrine.
The mansion

This is the main thoroughfare going to Cavite City, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Naic & Maragondon & from those places going to Manila. Now tell me, can they come to the office on time?

I really never liked Aguinaldo. Sad to say he is not in my list of heroes. A national holiday as significant as our independence should never be moved to accommodate the whims of Gloria’s businessmen allies. Let the workers earn what they should. Mababa na nga ang suweldo, gusto pang isahan.

Wow! I didn’t realize Aguinaldo’s house is that immense! Beautiful. Wonderful pictures as well :)

If he was already rich before the revolution, he got even richer after December 14, 1897 when he signed the Pact of Biak-na-Bato with the Spaniards, which in effect, earned him 800,000 pesos for selling the revolution (plus an additional 900,000 pesos for the non-combatants who suffered losses because of the war).

But as the karmaic fate would have, he only enjoyed the 200,000 down payment, for the Spaniards reneged on giving him the rest. But nonetheless, 200,000 pesos was a kingly sum during that period.

Like Schumey, Aguinaldo doesn’t make it on my hero’s list, either. A national pimp, perhaps … hehehe.

I read your comments in Senor Enrique’s post about the Independence Day weekend. I attended St. Mary Magdalene School at Kawit, Cavite in my elementary years and I remember our class doing a tour of the old Aguinaldo house. But I guess this shrine is not the same one we visited because I don’t remember the house being this big and the house we visited was just along the main street that leads to Zapote.
